Hello everyone! My name is Jennifer, and I am an aspiring librarian. I would like to share how incredibly great libraries can be and the variety of resources they can provide for just about anyone. So I hope you all will enjoy reading my blog and can take something away from it.
Kudos for wanting to be a librarian! I have had a love of books all my life. With technology today it is sad that the libraries are so underfunded. In my opinion there is nothing like holding a book in my hand. Reading it on a ipad or pc is just not the same. I look forward to future posts!
ReplyDeleteI actually get a lot of weird looks whenever I tell people that I want to be a librarian. Haha. Thanks for thinking otherwise. I agree that books are definitely better than e-books. Those things never appealed to me. They always hurt my eyes or gave me severe headaches. Plus, I never have to worry about running out of batteries to enjoy a good book. ;)
DeleteI also look forward to future posts. Do you think the prevalence of ebooks has caused a decline in attendance of libraries? Also, what are some of your favorite books?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. I used to believe that our libraries were in danger of disappearing altogether after seeing most of our bookstores close down, and it truly upset me. However as the years passed, I was glad to see that our libraries were evolving and embracing technology. You can now borrow e-books, music, movies, etc. from the library. They have movie nights and classes for people from cooking to learning how to use a computer. So in answer to your question, no I don't think that e-books are causing a decline in people's attendance of libraries. These libraries are actually thriving despite the budget cuts they're getting, and that's all because they've learned to adapt and give people what they need. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble. I read a variety of genres. My favorite authors are F. Paul Wilson, Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Cassandra Clare, Ayn Rand, Ray Bradbury, and Kurt Vonnegut to name a few. What are some of your favorite books?
DeleteI have to admit I heavily rely on the internet and have for the last 19 years, even when it was merely text based the information that was available at the fingertips was still amazing. Having said that I would have to agree with vegaschick77's comment, having a book in hand is still one of the greatest things around. I have tried the ebook route a few times, but still find it hard to take in the information, or feel like part of the story. I look forward to your posts on your journey.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate to what you said about relying on the internet for most of your informational needs. I can spend the entire day just surfing the internet, but it's true that there's nothing like having a good book in your hands. I've tried reading an e-book or two, and it wasn't the same. I like the feel of the pages when I flip through them, and they definitely don't give me headaches or hurt my eyes when I try to read them like the e-books do.
DeleteI also read printed books much faster than the ebooks.
DeleteI love the library! I go there often to get books for some of my classes and it's very convenient. I look forward to your posts :)
ReplyDeleteThe library is definitely convenient except for the hours. I wish they were open a lot later like they used to before the budget cuts. Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it.
DeleteI love going to the library and reading books in there because it is really peaceful and quiet. Librarians like you also give a lot of new information about what good books to read. :) I hope you blog more info :)
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. Whenever I feel the need to get away and get some work or reading done, I go to the library by my house. I get so much more done there. Thanks so much. I will definitely try to blog more often.
